Orientation week

Students entering the diploma programme will start their Academic Year with an orientation week. During this week information about the College will be provided, amongst others, the College lay-out, fire and safety plan, rules & regulations, accommodation, transportation and terms of payment of the tuition fees. There will also be some practical exercises as an introduction to the programmes. The attendance of the orientation week is mandatory.


Student Council

The Student Council is the official participatory organ for IMCO students. The Student council serves to give students a voice in the process of representing students’ interests in study-related matters. The council consists of representatives of all classes, including the Foundation programme.

The Student Council organises all kind of activities through and for the students as well. Some examples are:

  • Periodic guest lectures;

  • Seminars;

  • Annual competition between the different classes;

  • Cultural events;

  • Parties

  • Open days for new students.


Student affairs

Student affairs is very important for students. For each class, a class teacher is appointed. The class teacher is the first person dealing with student affairs. The Heads of Department are available to support the class teachers and advise each individual student about academic affairs.

Student Guidance  
The College will provide assistance to the students about:

  • Finding their potential and abilities;

  • Guide students to make the right choice of their degree programme;

  • Give advice to all other matters regarding the study at IMCO.


Attendance policy  

IMCO registers the attendance of all students individually. Students must attend classes 80% or more. The management of the college is allowed to block students from their exams if the absentee rate exceeds 20%. On a regular basis IMCO will send students and their parents or sponsors a printed overview of the attendance and results per subject.

Transfer conditions  

Students from other Colleges in or outside Oman may apply to transfer to IMCO. Transfer depends upon the availability of places in the required programme. An intake including a placement test is part of the admission procedure.


Withdrawal from the College  
A student may withdraw from the College. Sometimes withdrawal may be initiated by the Dean or the Head of Admission & Registration for academic or disciplinary reasons. When students have withdrawn from the College, they shall not be permitted to return unless re-admitted under certain conditions.

Students may also voluntarily withdraw from the College. They have to fill in the official Withdrawal Form.


Remedial teaching  
If a student’s progress is not sufficient the student and his/her parents or sponsors will be invited to the College to discuss the situation. If remedial teaching is needed, IMCO will do everything possible to help the student where needed.

Accommodation  
IMCO is ready to help find its students accommodation although it does not own accommodation facilities yet.

The accommodation is not free of cost but transport from the accommodation to the College v.v. is included in the accommodation fee. The accommodation fee for college facilitated accommodation is presently RO 60 /- per month and is subject to change from year to year. Students should also pay a RO 50 /- deposit to cover the cost in case any damage is caused to the hostel. More details can be available at Students affairs office.

Once you are assigned a room you should sign a contract between you and the landlord and abide by hostel rules. Through this contract you have agrees to stay and agreed to pay for the accommodation for the whole year at once.


Sports  
Part of the curriculum is two hours of physical exercises per week. Apart from this, extra sport activities will be organised such as a yearly day of sport, raft building, rowing competitions.

Nutrition  
IMCO has its own cafeteria. For a small amount, students can buy food and drinks.


Praying facilities  
The College provides praying facilities for males and females.


Library  

The library collections include amongst others books, magazines, references, databases, audio-visual materials, CD-ROMs, brochures from companies. Books are displayed according to the open display system with separate areas for the different studies. The library is open Saturday till Wednesday from 7.30 AM till 7 PM during the academic semesters.
