Medical check
Please
note that a medical check is required for the diploma programmes of
Deck Officer and Marine Engineering Officer.
In principle all students who pass the criteria to enroll the
programme Deck Officer (Nautical Studies) or Marine Engineering
Officer, and who pass or fail the medical check are allowed to start
the diploma programme.
As set out by international regulations, those who choose for Deck
Officer (Nautical Studies) or Marine Engineering Officer must go
through a medical check. The reason is that people employed on
sea-going vessels must be in good health.
In order to prevent disappointments IMCO advises the Students to do
the medical check prior to the start of the diploma and degree
programmes.
Secondly, when people go to sea they must have a so called
‘muster-book’. The muster-book can only be obtained with a valid
medical certificate.
The medical check comprises of the following elements:
- General physical condition;
- Sense of hearing;
- Sense of seeing.
